Death of a Targeted Former U.S. Senator

Breaking News:

Former U.S. Senator of Alaska Ted Stevens (pictured) was killed in a plane crash in Alaska.

Stevens was targeted, prosecuted, and convicted by the Rove Republican Racket in 2008. He lost his re-election bid that same year.

After the Obama Administration took over the reigns of government, a "horrified" U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder vacated the conviction in April of last year and launched an investigation into gross prosecutorial misconduct by federal prosecutors, who withheld evidence from Stevens' defense team.

His death brings an unofficial close to one of many disturbing and political persecutions of the Rove Bush Cheney era.

Falsifying Feds

The case against the federal prosecutors who engaged in prosecutorial misconduct in the wrongful prosecution of former U.S.  Senator Ted Stevens (pictured) took a escalating step up against the feds.

As you may recall, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, who was "horrified" by the misconduct, vacated the conviction and strongly denounced the withholding of evidence from Steven's attorneys by federal prosecutors.

The Rove Republican Racket took a severe beating and today it got uglier.

Main Justice reports today:

A special prosecutor sorting through the wreckage of the case against former Alaska Senator Ted Stevens is investigating whether Justice Department lawyers pressured an FBI agent to falsify a summary of his notes from an interview with a government witness, according to people briefed on the matter. The prosecutor, Henry Schuelke III, is examining a discrepancy, which has not been previously disclosed, in two sets of an FBI agent’s notes from an interview with Robert “Rocky” Williams, who helped with renovations to the Alaska Republican’s home, the people said. Schuelke is said to have found differences between the agent’s handwritten notes of the interview and a typewritten summary of the same notes, known in the FBI as a Form 302. Schuelke has focused on whether two Assistant U.S. Attorneys in Alaska, Joseph Bottini and James Goeke, pressed the agent to change Williams’ statements in order to bolster the government’s case, according to those knowledgeable about the inquiry.

Alaska Six Probe Wrapping Up

The Rove Republican Racket's prosecutorial misconduct derailed their case against former U.S. Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska.  U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, "horrified" by the misconduct, vacated the conviction and withdrew the charges last year.

Now the probe of the six Justice Department attorneys involved in the fiasco is wrapping up. Main Justice reports:

The special prosecutor investigating the Justice Department lawyers involved in the government’s case against former Sen. Ted Stevens (R- Alaska) has completed interviews, signaling that the yearlong probe is nearing its conclusion, said two people familiar with the matter.Meanwhile, the Justice Department’s ethics unit is close to finishing a separate investigation of the six lawyers, which will culminate in a report on whether their failure to turn over critical evidence to Stevens’ defense team amounted to professional misconduct, the people said. Special prosecutor Henry Schuelke III, whose investigation began in April 2009, is expected to make his recommendation first. U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan, who presided over the Stevens trial, tapped Schuelke to determine whether department lawyers sought to conceal the evidence in violation of criminal contempt statutes or whether they withheld it by mistake.

Rove and the Conspiracy Buffs

In yesterday's Washington Post, we finally obtained some understanding on what Karl Rove feels about the unwarranted dismissals of seven U.S. Attorneys in 2006 and the Rove Republican Racket that has politically prosecuted, incarcerated, and humiliated Democrats of all shapes and sizes from coast to coast.
"In a tone of obvious irritation, [Rove] asserts that he did not have any role in the Justice Department's 2005 decision to prosecute the Democratic former governor of Alabama, Don Siegelman, on bribery and other charges, an accusation Rove fought for years. He also takes on what he calls a "bunch of conspiracy buffs" who accused him of ordering the removal of seven U.S attorneys for their failure to prosecute Democrats. The Justice Department, he says, had grounds for all of the dismissals."
Karl Rove has excused himself from the obvious: the U.S. Department of Justice became a political arm of the Republican Party during the Bush years and wrongly went after political enemies.

Besides Siegelman, there is Paul Minor, there is Pierce O'Donnell, there is Ted Stevens, there is Sue Schmitz, there is Jim Tobin, and there is a list that goes on and on and on.

We are not conspiracy buffs. From the inside of law enforcement to the backrooms of Congress, we are professionals from Washington, D.C. and have blown open the truth about DOJ scoundrels that paid political homage to Karl Rove. We have exposed the political cronyism of Acting U.S. Attorney Timothy M. Morrison, to the wasteful spending habits of former U.S. Attorney Brett Tolman, to the shameful and disgraceful “secret contract” of former U.S. Attorney Jim Greenlee. We have brought about national exposure on prosecutorial misconduct from the Silicon Valley to Western Michigan.

Karl Rove knew he was the "architect" during the Bush-Cheney Adminstration and now he tries to play it down on the eve of his book release.

The reality is political prisoners sit in prison not because of "conspiracy buffs" but because of  the uncontrolled lust for power by Karl Rove and his henchmen in the Rove Republican Racket.

Will an Alaska Appeal Bring Justice?

Earlier this month former Alaska State Representative Peter Kott (pictured) was told for the second time by a U.S. District Judge that he would not get a chance at a second trial even though a bombshell hit allegedly showing prosecutorial misconduct by the Alaska U.S. Attorney's Office.

The prosecutors who targeted Kott were the same Rove Republican Racket members who wrongfully targeted former U.S. Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska by engaging in prosecutorial misconduct and withholding evidence. The star witness in both federal cases was the unreliable and convicted felon Bill Allen, now the center of an explosive sex scandal.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder vacated the conviction of Senator Ted Stevens in April, launched an internal probe, and reassigned the federal prosectuors involved.

The Anchorage Daily News reported:
U.S. District Judge John Sedwick ...told Kott he won't reconsider his Jan. 13 ruling denying Kott a new trial or dismissal of charges. New information that surfaced the day after his January ruling was insignificant and won't change his mind, Sedwick said in a one-page, unsigned order from chambers.

Kott has been arguing for months that federal prosecutors improperly withheld information that he could have used in his defense. But in his Jan. 13 ruling, Sedwick said the withheld evidence wouldn't have made a difference in Kott's 2007 conviction. And he told Kott his decision was final: "This court will not entertain any motion for reconsideration," Sedwick said.

But then came a surprise: Prosecutors came into possession of 105 pages of handwritten notes by the attorney who represented Bill Allen, the former oil-services company chief who admitted bribing Kott and others. Allen was the government's chief witness. The notes were made by Anchorage attorney Bob Bundy as he sat through several debriefings of Allen by the FBI and Justice Department lawyers.
Kott has one more shot at justice. He remains free on appeal and awaits a hearing on a motion to dismiss with the federal court of appeals next month.

Marsh Goes Roman

Last June, we reported that Nicholas Marsh (pictured), the disgraced and humiated federal prosecutor who botched the case against former U.S. Senator Ted Stevens by withholding evidence, was removed from his post and put on the international desk of the DOJ.

Now a new swirl of controversy surrounds Marsh. The Alaska Political Corruption Blog reports:
Reaching even farther back to catch up, the New York Times has reported that Department of Justice attorney Nicholas Marsh has been working in his new Department of Justice job to get filmmaker Roman Polanski extradited to the U.S. to face sentencing for having sex with a minor more than three decades ago.

A former prosecutor of ex-U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens and other defendants in the federal probe into Alaska public corruption, Marsh left DoJ’s Public Integrity Section after the Ted Stevens prosecution collapsed in April. The lawyer was re-assigned to the lower-profile Office of International Affairs to handle extraditions, including that of the movie director who has long been a fugitive in Europe.

Alaska's Sex Scandal Erupts

Bill Allen (pictured), the government's star witness in the trial against former U.S. Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska, allegedly had an unusual sexual appetite according to news reports from Alaska.

The charges and convictions against former Senator Stevens were dropped last April because of prosecutorial misconduct. Last month, we reported that prosecutors of the Rove Republican Racket manipulated and intimidated Allen by holding a stick: investigations of inappropriate sexual relations.

Now the truth is out. According to a report from the Anchorage Daily News:

Anchorage resident Lisa Moore says she traded sex with then-Veco boss Bill Allen in 1996 for an apartment, money and jewelry. He was 59; she was 19. She also says she introduced him to a 15-year-old girl who became his sex partner. But the next year, an ex-boyfriend of Moore's got into legal trouble and threatened to blow the whistle on Allen's relationship with Moore and other teens, including the 15-year-old, Moore said, triggering a string of alleged cover-ups that now threaten to undermine the Alaska political corruption investigation.

Allen's conduct with that underage girl and at least one other has been the subject of an active Anchorage police investigation since 2008. That inquiry developed more urgency last spring when a prosecutor with the Justice Department's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section joined local detectives in the case and began traveling to Anchorage to interview witnesses, including a visit just last week.

But long before the authorities got involved, Allen reportedly went to great lengths to keep his sexual activities secret. When Moore told Allen she expected to be called as a witness at her ex-boyfriend's trial and forced to reveal Allen's seamy and possibly criminal private life, Allen immediately sent her, her brother and her fiance on the lam to California to prevent her from being subpoenaed, Moore told n Anchorage police detective and elaborated in recent interviews with the Daily News.
